MEO ARENA

JAMES

Having a long and stable relationship with Portuguese audiences, James take to the stage at the MEO Arena on the 29th November.

In 1980, the band Venereal and the Diseases was formed, eventually changing their name to James in 1982. Paul Gilbertson (guitar), Jim Glennie (bass guitar) and Gavan Whelan (drums) met Tim Booth (vocalist) at the University of Manchester and invited him to join the band. The following year, they started playing the bar circuit regularly and in 1983 they signed with Factory, the label under which they released their first two EPs (Jimone in the same year, and James II two years later), and also played as the opening act on some occasions for Morrisey, their “musical godfather”.

2013 was spent in the studio with Max Dingel (Killers, Muse) – Now they are back with a new album (six years later) – “La Petite Mort”, which was released in June this year.

La Petite Mort was recorded at the same time as Tim Booth lost both his mother and his best friend, and understandably many of the tracks are about mortality and knowing how to deal with it, hence the title. However, La Petite Mort is an extremely edifying recording. Not to be missed.
