Celebrate the 200th Anniversary of Johann Strauss II: Come and see for yourself the excellence of the Vienna Johann Strauss Orchestra Live.
The most recognized and beloved works of Austrian composer Johann Strauss II are being brought to Portugal by the orchestra that is the heir to the Strauss Dynasty—a family known for its music, originality, and lightness.
For the first time in our country, this orchestra, conducted by Austrian Maestro Alfred Eschwé, is composed of 55 musicians who use the same instruments and formation that delighted the salons of European nobility nearly two centuries ago and continue to enchant audiences worldwide.
In a unique and unrepeatable performance, listen to the waltzes, polkas, and operettas that helped make Vienna the "City of Music" and explain why Johann Strauss II is still known today as the "King of Waltz."
The Orchestra
In 1966, almost 120 years after the founding of the Strauss Orchestra, the great demand for quality interpretations of Vienna's "light" music led a group of exceptional musicians to found the Vienna Johann Strauss Orchestra, using the same formation and instruments as the original Strauss Orchestra. Edouard Strauss II, great-grandnephew of Johann Strauss II—whose bicentennial is marked in 2025—was the first Maestro of this formation until his sudden death in 1969. Willi Boskovsky succeeded him, and it was under this Austrian's baton that Strauss's music reached millions of people through recordings and televised New Year's Concerts.
The Maestro
Austrian Maestro Alfred Eschwé is recognized as one of the world's foremost specialists in the music of Johann Strauss II, the so-called "King of Waltz." He regularly conducts major orchestras throughout Europe, as well as in the United States, Japan, and Korea, to introduce and bring the music of the Strauss dynasty to everyone. Numerous releases of Strauss's works and operetta recitals attest to his remarkable competence in this genre. Over many years, Alfred Eschwé has established close collaborations with orchestras such as the Tonkunstler Orchestra of Lower Austria, the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, and the WDR Radio Orchestra in Cologne.
