ROBERTO CARLOS

03 OCT AND 04 OCT

MEO ARENA

ROBERTO CARLOS

Roberto Carlos announces an additional date on October 3 in MEO Arena, a second date in the mythical singer’s 60-year career celebration in Lisbon.

Roberto Carlos needs no introduction. He started his musical career still in the 50s with projects like The Sputnik’s (with Tim Maia as well) and The Snakes (in collaboration with his songwriting partner, Erasmo Carlos). His first big success comes in 1963, with the album Splish Splash, which opened up opportunities to play in several radio stations and TV channels, introducing the new Brazilian music superstar to the world.

Tickets can be purchased in the usual places and in everythingisnew.pt.

Every single and album has contributed to the singer’s growing success in his home country, but the first step towards internationalization happens in 1967 when he joins the lineup for the music trade show and festival MIDEM (Cannes), leading up to his performance the following year in Sanremo Festival (Italy).

At the same time, a new musical chapter begins for the writer and composer, with romantic songs gaining ground in his singles and edited albums. Songs like “Detalhes” (1971), “Proposta” (1973), “Seu Corpo” (1975), “Cavalgada” (1977), “Café da Manhã” (1978), or “Desabafo” (1979), propel him into a significant milestone: going over 1 million sales.

It’s in 1974, and still going on today, that a lasting collaboration starts: a special end of the year program, which will celebrate 50 years of existence in 2024. Other milestones in Roberto Carlo’s career positively take over the following years, from 1997 onwards, when he met Pope John Paul II in Rio de Janeiro and sang for more than 2 million people; in the following year, there’s his duet with Luciano Pavarotti, the renowned tenor; in 2000 the recording of an MTV acoustic; in 2005 his tour through Brazil’s coast, named ‘Emoções em Alto Mar’, to which he invited friends, artists, fans and the press for a series of intimate concerts with special lineups. Even before the 90s, his “Emoções” tour had stops in 18 cities from 14 different states in Brazil, and gathered a crew of 110 people — a milestone still unsurpassed in the history of Brazilian music.
