Fontaines D.C. have just announced a concert at Lisbon’s MEO Arena on October 21, marking the start of the band’s European tour. Comprising 20 shows in total, the tour follows the release of Dopamine Chamber, the highly anticipated fifth studio album from the Irish group, due to arrive on streaming platforms on October 16.
The new record follows 2024’s Romance and represents another step in the ongoing sonic evolution of Fontaines D.C. With Dopamine Chamber, the band moves away from the guitar-driven sound that defined much of its early work and explores a colder, stranger, more synthetic musical landscape, questioning how pleasure changes when confronted with danger. This new direction is already evident on “Marianne”, the album’s first single, which is now available on all digital platforms.
Speaking about the concept behind the new album, frontman Grian Chatten explains: “The album itself is a dopamine chamber. We step inside it and test these different pieces of music that alter everyone’s state of mind or consciousness.”
Formed in Dublin, Fontaines D.C. consists of Grian Chatten, Carlos O’Connell, Conor Curley, Conor Deegan and Tom Coll. Since their debut album Dogrel in 2019, the band has built an international following and established a distinctive identity.
Five days after the release of Dopamine Chamber, on October 21, Fontaines D.C. will take to the stage at MEO Arena for a night in which Portuguese fans will have the opportunity to hear the new tracks live and reconnect with some of the band’s most celebrated songs.
