CIRQUE DU SOLEIL CORTEO

Corteo, the most delightful arena production from Cirque Du Soleil, is now finally touring within Europe, with over 13 shows scheduled in Lisbon, at Altice Arena, from the 3rd until the 12th of January. This unique production, created by Daniele Finzi Pasca, debuted in Montreal, in a tent format in April 2005, and since then, has already conquered more than 9 million people in 19 countries, in 4 continents.

Corteo, means courtship in Italian, this is a joyful precession, a festive parade, devised by a clown. The show gathers an actor´s passion with the graciousness and power of an acrobat, placing the audience into a playful theatrical world, seasoned with comedy and spontaneity, situated within a mysterious limbo place, between paradise and earth.

The clown imagines his own funeral taking place in a carnival environment, supervised in silence by diligent angel guards. Overlapping the opposites, the large and the small, the ridiculous with the tragic, the magical of perfection and the charm of the imperfect. The show enhances the strength and fragility of the clown, as well as wisdom and kindness, in ways which illustrates the part of human complexities that are found in each one of us.

The concept and stage layout bring to the audience a theatrical environment as it has never been seen before in any of the arenas of the Cirque du Soleil shows. The scenery curtains, inspired in the Eifel tower, and the central curtains, which were hand painted, give the sensation of grandiosity to the stage. This establishes the tone of poetry to Corteo.

The cast in Corteo includes 51 acrobats, musicians, singers and actors, all from different parts of the world.
