GOJIRA + Special Guests

GOJIRA! This word, the original name of the famous fictional Japanese monster Godzilla, has a very different meaning nowadays for anybody who loves extreme music that doesn’t play by the rules. This is undeniable, as GOJIRA is one of the last decade’s most iconic metal bands.

On July 13th, 2015, following their explosive Portuguese debut at Vagos Open Air 2014, the French band will take to the stage at MEO Arena to entertain the crowd with their instantly recognisable style, which acts as a platform for a powerful ecological message that is not only relevant but  unique in their genre.

With their ability to write music with the potential to appeal to a wide range of fans and to blend their underground roots with a mainstream appeal that makes them a staple of all their genre’s major events, the four musicians, led by brothers Joe and Mario Duplantier, form a band that is universally loved and heralded by a broad cross-section of loyal fans, ranging from laid-back thrashers to heavy prog fanatics.

Despite having been formed in 1996, it was only with the release of their third album, 'From Mars To Sirius', in 2005 that GOJIRA managed to take the final step towards international stardom and a success that had been predicted for some years by the press and their fans. They were dragged from utmost obscurity to be described, in a general reference site such as Allmusic, as "amongst the genre’s leading new millennium upstarts." They certainly worked hard to reach this point, travelling the world alongside such respected names as Lamb Of God or Behemoth, culminating in Metallica’s invitation to join them on their 2009 tour of the United States and Europe.

Following the path initially trodden on “From Mars to Sirius” and followed on “The Way Of All Flesh”, the French musicians remain focused on their style of complex death metal while also spicing it up, evidencing their growing maturity and showing that they are increasingly aware of how to get their message across effectively. Come and check them out, live and in colour, at Lisbon’s MEO Arena on July 13th.
